Chelsea’s want away defender Ricardo Carvalho is apparently attracting the interest of Real Madrid.
Tuttosport reported yesterday that Los Blancos are considering entering the race for the Portuguese centre back, who has so far been expected to move to Inter.
Inter technical director Marco Branca is in London, reportedly to speak to Chelsea about Carvalho as well as teammate Deco, but Real have apparently entered negotiations as well, after failing to lure Maicon away from the San Siro.
After securing the services of versatile defender Raul Albiol of Valencia, the Primera Liga giants are reportedly also looking to add Carvalho to their defence. While Inter remain favourites to sign Carvalho, Tuttosport claims that Los Merengues are trying to bolster their back four by bringing in the Chelsea man to partner international team-mate Pepe.
Carvalho spent a large portion of last season out with injury and has admitted he is open to offers after being critical of Chelsea's treatment of him. If he does end up joining Real, Sergio Ramos would continue to play at right-back while Carvalho and Pepe would be in the center, with Albiol playing on the left or Arbeloa being brought in to make up the defense.
However, the lure of again linking up with his former coach at both Porto and Chelsea, Jose Mourinho, means that Inter are still favourites to sign Carvalho.
