Andrea Dossena to serie A.

Liverpool left-back Andrea Dossena looks destined to make a swift a return to Italy's Serie A after asking Reds manager Rafael Benitez for a transfer this summer.

The 27-year-old Italy international has failed to make an impact in his debut season in English football following a £7million move from Udinese last July and had been expected to replace John Arne Riise, following the Norwegian’s transfer to AS Roma last summer.

Dossena made just twelve Barclays Premier League starts and was consistently second choice to Fabio Aurelio for the Reds, and the left-back admits he is not happy with his limited opportunities. Towards the end of the season he found himself relegated to third choice behind Fabio Aurelio and emerging Argentinian starlet Emiliano Insua.

In talks with Reds boss Rafa Benitez the Italian has said he would like to return to Italy's Serie A, with Juventus his club of choice.

Talking to Tuttosport Dossena said: “Before coming back to Italy I talked to Benitez and explained to him my doubts, I told him I wanted to leave. He is an exceptional person and understood my problem.

Following the talks with Benitez the pair are said to have reached an agreement to find a 'common solution'.
