Cannavaro wants Diarra at Juve

Cagliari v JuventusItaly captain Fabio Cannavaro is hopeful about former Madrid teammate Mahamadou Diarra joining him at the Stadio Delle Alpi.

Cannavaro completed a return move to Juventus this summer after a spell at Real Madrid, and is positive about rumours that Diarra will move to Turin as well.

Speaking to Corriere dello Sport from South Africa, where he is representing Italy at the Confederations cup, Cannavaro said the arrival of Diarra would be a boost to Juve.

"If I could choose, I would bring Mahamadou Diarra with me. He is a great friend. He has the right mentality and is not bad at all."

Diarra, who faced injury problems throughout last season, is believed to be surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu, where new president Florentino Perez is looking to completely revamp the side.

Meanwhile, Cannavaro is ready to return to the Italy back four for Thursday's game against Egypt.

Defending his run of poor form recently after he was a key player in Italy's World Cup victory, the 35 year-old said he is still looking to be at his best.

"The truth is that it is impossible for me to say I will return to the levels of the World Cup 2006. However, I hope to prove tomorrow evening that I am still on the high-end."

The Azzurri captain missed Italy's opening game with a calf strain, but is hoping to win his 125th international cap by playing tomorrow.

Italy currently lead Group B after a 3-1 victory against the USA, but Egypt, who provided Brazil with a tough fight in their first game, will represent a bigger challenge for the Azzurri.
